In The Firing Line: The Analysis Of Jon Kent Under Brian Michael Bendis & Tom Taylor

The Superboy Who Isn’t Superboy!

Brian Michael Bendis started everything off with the Man Of Steel mini series of only six issues coming out weekly until the beginning of his Action Comics run & Superman run, the readers of the previous runs of Superman by Peter J Tomasi and Dan Jurgens on Action Comics delivered some fantastic Superman family storytelling whilst keeping to the core of what makes Superman so Super in the Detective Comics, Comic universe.

Starting with the Man Of Steel, we were immediately introduced to a full Retcon of this Superman and his Families Origin, which means that this was no longer the Superman of DC’S Rebirth.

Rogol Zaar:Death Of Superman

Character starts off with a sword and then changes it to an axe in Actual Man Of Steel 6 issue run

The moment Rogol Zaar entered into the Superman comics, this new character was immediately seen as mashup of some already known Superman Villains like Mongul and Doomsday, plus connecting this character to the Death of Krypton, which also became the Death of Action and Superman comics which showed in the area of sales.

First Retcon of his Villain, Sword changed to Axe

Now the first picture of Rogol Zaar appears in Action Comics #1000 & the second appears in Brian Michael Bendis Man Of Steel #1 as the first retcon and zero consistency with his first Villain he sought to introduce into the universe, also in issue 1 of Man Of Steel we get instant retconning around Supermans Origins connecting to Rogol Zaar.

New Superman, Wrong Family; Destruction of the Kent Household by Bendis and Taylor.

Man of Steel 6

As Man Of Steel reached the last issue, we learned that both this Jon Kent and Lois Lane end up going off with Jor El connected to this completely new universe created by Bendis.

With the pages above, with this new version of Jon Kent, whose middle name isn’t Samuel, the Krypton retconning introducing Rogol Zaar has erased both the Dan Jurgens and Peter J Tomasi characters from Rebirth we learnt this immediately by how the events with this on Kent played out in this Bendis universe created from the aforementioned timelines, to how we know what events really happened in The Super Sons Of Tomorrow arc.

Note to readers: I’ll be covering Tom Taylor damage done to the Superman Family, including Jon Kent, after I finish up covering the Bendis damage done to Jon Kent’s character.

The Retconning Of Jor El & Treatment Of Jon Kent

Issue 6 Man Of Steel
Superman issue 7

As we were reintroduced to Jon Kent under Bendis, everyone saw what had happened to him as this one had been aged up against many of the Super Sons readers’ desires .

Whether many have or haven’t noticed, is that this Jon Kent’s middle name is never mentioned in the Bendis run, proof again that this one isn’t Convergence Superman Jon Samuel Kent, which is only connected to Tomasi and Jurgens DC Rebirth Superman.

Jon Kent & The Legion Of Super Fascists

Legion Of Super Heroes issue 5

Upon the return of this Jon Kent under Bendis, after what happened between his Grandfather Jor El and himself, being caught up in Earth 3 with Ultraman to supposedly return home without any problems with trauma to being in a Volcano to be verbally attacked by Ultraman, then claims that he was fine to his dad Clark Kent.

After things were finished with Rogol Zaar, this Jon Kent played apart in the United Planets, which led to this retconned timelines creation of the Legion Of Super Fascists, not Heroes.

Superman #14

As the BMB version of Jon Kent entered into the world of the legion Of Super Fascists, he had tried to bring one of our favourite Super Sons Damian Wayne with him, whilst Robin was practically abused by this legion Of Super Fascists, who had the opportunity to showing they had an opportunity to become heroes, with manipulation being done even by Saturn Girl, which eventually led to a somewhat forced relationship between her and Jon Kent, within the legion Of Super Fascists own archives the character assassination of Damian Wayne.

And too add to the events from past too legion Of Super Fascists future, the return of Rogol Zaar, with another useless story trying to make this character to appear as a threat from earlier Superman issues of BMB.

As we move into the next atrocious thing Jon Kent now gets caught up with both the Justice League and Legion Of Super Fascists, in an event meant to prop up the character of the Gold Lantern plus Super Mary sue Naomi McDuffie.

Action Comics House Of Kent Arc

Multiverse Reboot Conundrum

As the house of Kent Arc began, Jon Kent was also somewhat used once again to help in solving the case around Conner Kent appearance in this retconned Superman universe, to which we the readers learn that a Superman reboot event caused the creation of this universe to having Conner Kent to appear.

To add insult into injury, an admission that Jon Kent is better with Damian Wayne Robin, as the Super Sons.

Admission of Bendis Guilt knowing how many Super Sons readers he upset with his story and destruction of not only Jon Kent but Superman Family.

Tom Taylor’s retconned 1st appearance of Jon Kent’s birth in the Brian Michael Bendis timeline.

Note: Some Brian Michael Bendis Superman & Legion Of Super Fascists material will be used in upcoming parts of this article alongside Tom Taylor’s content.

The official 1st appearance birth of Jon Kent in the Bendis retconned timeline, not Convergence Superman which links to Dan Jurgens and Peter J Tomasi Jon Samuel Kent official timeline.

Jon Kent’s retconned past goes into Nightwing territory.

Through the Tom Taylor retconning of Jon Kent’s past, we have Nightwing now being a part of his early past, plus some questionable behaviour shown between himself and this Jon Kent.

Jon Kent is what now?! Relationship Disasters & The Bi-Traversy .

Tom Taylor tells the audience that Jon Kent becomes Bisexual
Tom Taylor news for a Bisexual Jon Kent

Promise of a Bisexual character, storytelling is completely opposite

To help cover the area of Jon Kent’s relationship, we need to go to his first force relationship with Saturn Girl under Bendis

In the story, there wasn’t any proper lead up that they really had a deep interest in each other, the same is also seen in Son of Kal El run as they expect the audience to immediately think that both characters have had a hot steamy relationship before first kiss, when the writing and story show the complete opposite.

Jay Nakamura behaviour between Jon Kent comes off strongly like that of a villain, as he has done nothing really heroic, including when he was with Jon Kent at his Grandparents house.
The problem with Tom Taylor Bisexual Jon Kent Son of Kal El run is that he also failed in showing his female love interest alongside with his male love interest, so DC Comics & Tom Taylor lied to it’s audience, by not giving what they promised.

Something Volcanic About The Trauma caused by Bendis & Taylor

So to start this off, we have to move to its origins in Bendis Superman run in issue 9, which will show in images below.

As the story continues we do learn Jon Kent under Bendis experienced both physical and mental abuse from Ultraman only to be pulled out of Earth 3 by his Grandfather Jor El.

Now to move into the Tom Taylor covering this Volcanic Destruction of Jon Kent.

I’ll start off with its 1st appearance in Son of Kal El issue 9

The comic reference is also incorrect, as it takes place on Bendis Superman Unity Saga.

Its next appearance takes place in Adventures Of Jon Kent issue 1 picture will be shown below.

It returns again to issue 2, images below

An important page as this confirms that the real Jon Samuel Kent, isn’t being shown here, but a new Jon Kent from the Brian Michael Bendis timeline into the Tom Taylor story.
After the fight with Ultraman the event was short-lived as he was then killed off by Tom Taylor’s Injustice universe Superman.

So where can the real Jon Samuel Kent be found in present DC Comics?

Dan Jurgens story in Action Comics latest issues.

Let’s Keep It Colourful!
